What is EQ?

EQ (or equalization)is to change the balance of frequencies this was useful for making the sound clear on in the war for the telephone but this days it for altering the sound in a music track

in the music world we use EQ to help make clarity of sound in a track when you got lots of overlapping frequency’s

Our ears can detect a huge range of frequencies—roughly 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Each element of your mix has energy in different parts of that range.

EQ is the the tool you use to manipulate the frequency content of your mix so that everything is balanced and clear. It can also be used creatively!!

To cut or too boost ?

The rule of thumb.

All engineers experts agree — is that cutting with an EQ is better than boosting.

The typical reasons given for this is that cutting doesn’t impact the headroom available on the track, and that some EQ designs have more phase shift (which sounds bad) when boosting than when cutting.
